With flights available every day, morning or evening, you’ll meet the crew at Bowshaw Showground – right on the edge of Sheffield. The balloon is laid out and slowly prepared, with sunrise or sunset casting a changing light over the field. It usually takes around an hour to get ready.
You’re free to get involved or simply watch the process unfold as the balloon fills, the burners fire up, and the basket is made ready for flight.

As the balloon lifts into the sky, Sheffield fades quietly behind and the land begins to open out. You might drift towards Ringinglow, the Limb Valley, or the rolling edges of the national park. The light – whether early or late – adds something different every time.
The breeze decides the route, and the pilot will guide you through the sights along the way. There’s time for photos, but also time to just be still and take it all in.
Touch Down.

After about an hour in the air, the pilot will bring the balloon in to land — usually somewhere quiet, depending on the wind. The landing spot changes every time, which adds to the sense of adventure.
Once you’re back on the ground, you’ll enjoy a toast to the flight and have time for a few final photos before returning towards the launch site. You’ll leave with a certificate, and with the memory of seeing Sheffield and the Peaks from a whole new angle.

That covers arrival, briefing and balloon preparation, around an hour in the air, landing, the post-flight celebration and return transport.
Balloon flights only operate when conditions are suitable. If your flight cannot go ahead because of the weather, you can rearrange it for another date.
